A+ Tutors Bring Experience and Dedication

What does it take to make an A+ tutor? A+ tutors come from many different backgrounds. Their skills are varied: they calculate surface area; they structure sentences and paragraphs; they proctor tests. Some tutors provide executive functioning support and help alleviate test anxiety. Others have the periodic table memorized. Yet all our tutors have one thing in common: a passion to help students succeed. One of the questions parents often ask us is: How experienced are your tutors? Many people on our staff have been tutoring for 10 years or more. In fact, there are quite a few tutors who have been tutoring at A+ for that length of time—or longer! For tutors at A+, experience also means having credentials in areas other than academia. Members of our staff have degrees in subjects from composition to science to counseling. Our numbers include linguists, world travelers, and Peace Corps volunteers. One of our most enthusiastic Executive Functioning coaches has a technical and engineering background. He has supervised projects in multiple industries. He also specializes in guiding and acclimatizing families who are unfamiliar with the American education system. We have chemistry tutors who have worked in professional laboratories and collaborated with scientists from around the globe on special scientific endeavors. We have verbal tutors who are published writers—some with several books to their credit. Experience is important, of course, but another thing families are often interested in is: What motivates your staff? Why do they continue to encourage, teach, and support? Our tutors sincerely love what they do. Each has his or her own reasons. One tutor simply says, â€Å"It’s rewarding.† Another says she relishes helping students reach â€Å"that ‘aha’ moment—when they realize that they can totally accomplish whatever challenges they are faced with.† A third says she values â€Å"see[ing] a student gain confidence expressing her thoughts, feelings, and ideas.† â€Å"I’ve taught public school for 16 years and raised two daughters,† says one of our 10-year employees. â€Å"I’ve been a part of the learning environment from both sides, so I can empathize with both parents and students. I am aware of what students’ needs are from a school perspective, as well as a personal standpoint.† At A+ Test Prep and Tutoring, our practices are based on the latest developments in educational theory and research. We have an excellent team ready to help you with standardized testing, executive functioning, or achievement in any other school subject.
